Grief changes us

It changes how we see ourselves, how we move through the world, and how we make sense of what comes next. Loss does not ask for permission and once it arrives, nothing is quite the same.

If you are here because you are grieving, you are not broken.
If you are here because you are searching for language, understanding, or steadiness you are not alone.

I am Dr. Tina R. Fornwald. I understand profound loss, and I understand the quiet ways it reshapes a life. My work is rooted in meeting people at their point of pain with honesty, compassion, and respect for what grief truly asks of us.

I do not promise quick healing or easy answers. I do promise presence, truth, and space to breathe, to name what has changed, and to feel less alone in the process.

WHO AM I

I am an author, transformational speaker, and grief specialist whose work centers on life after loss, not as a return to who you were, but as a reckoning with who you are becoming.

I integrate psychological insight and pastoral care, grounded in lived experience, to help individuals who feel stuck in their grief. I am the creator of Where Grief Gets Stuck: The Five Survival Patterns™, a framework that identifies the adaptive survival patterns that can prevent movement after loss. Rather than focusing on stages or timelines, I focus on restoring movement when grief has settled into patterns such as self-blame, spiritual betrayal, isolation, numbing through extremes, or emotional suppression.

I am also the author of The Five Widows Club, a novel that explores the lives of five women navigating widowhood, identity, and connection after profound loss. Through layered storytelling, the book reflects my deep conviction that grief is not meant to be carried alone and that belonging is essential to healing.

My life has been shaped by deep love, sudden loss, illness, service, and faith. I am a widow. I am a mother. I am a retired U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer with 21 years of service. I have lived the disorientation that grief brings, and I understand how easily it can harden into patterns that feel immovable.

Through that lived experience, and through years of walking alongside others in loss, I have learned this: grief is not something we “get over.” It is something we integrate with honesty, structure, and care.

Faith is part of who I am, not as a requirement for others, but as a steady foundation that allows me to hold space for people exactly as they are. My work welcomes those of every belief system, background, and story.

I do not show up to fix grief.

I show up to help people recognize where it may be stuck and to guide it gently back into movement.

WHAT I BELIEVE

Grief is not a weakness.
There is no timeline for healing.
Strength does not mean silence.
Transformation after loss is not chosen it happens.
Being witnessed matters.

Grief transforms us whether we want it to or not. My role as a transformational speaker is to name that reality with clarity and compassion, helping people understand what has shifted and how to stand steadily within it.

MY WORK

Through my writing, speaking, and conversations, I create spaces where grief is spoken honestly without platitudes, pressure, or performance.

You may know my work through:
• The Five Widows Club
• The Widowhood Real Talk with Dr. Tina podcast
• Speaking engagements and community conversations
• Faith-based, corporate, and leadership settings
• Media conversations around grief, loss, and life after death

Each space is different. The intention is the same: to remind people they are not alone and that their grief deserves care, not correction.

IF YOU’RE HERE

If you are newly grieving, I see you.
If you are years into loss and still carrying its weight, I see you.
If you are a reader, listener, leader, or journalist seeking a grounded voice on grief, you are welcome here.

This is a place for real conversation.
For honesty without urgency.
For holding what hurts—without being rushed to move on.

You don’t have to be “okay” to be here.
You just have to arrive.

The Author’s Chair

Stories from the Middle of Grief, Love, and Becoming

I invite you to “The Author’s Chair,” where I write from the middle — the honest space between loss and healing, love and becoming.

Here, I share monthly reflections on my author journey and on my lived experience with grief, storytelling, and hope. These are not lessons or answers, but gentle conversations for anyone navigating life after loss or living through change.

You don’t need to be a writer to belong here.
You only need to be human.

Pull up a chair.
