Real stories. Real grief. Restored belonging.
Through real stories, I help people honor grief and rediscover a sense of belonging.

New Year, Same Love

The calendar has turned.

And still, love remains.

Crossing into a new year without the person you love can feel disorienting. The world moves forward with its resolutions and expectations, while your heart quietly carries what it has always carried. January does not arrive with answers. It arrives with space sometimes more space than we know what to do with.

For many, January is harder than December.

The holidays bring activity, check-ins, invitations, and noise. January brings quiet. It asks us to return to routines and responsibilities, even when grief has not loosened its grip. Some people step into the new year surrounded by friends and support. Others find themselves doing this mostly alone.

Both realities are real. Both can be heavy.

If you are entering this year feeling uncertain, weary, or afraid you are not failing. You are human. Grief does not reset simply because the calendar changes. Love does not disappear because time has passed.

I don’t yet know what this year will fully hold.

What I do know is that meaning continues to unfold, even alongside grief. Over the years, I have listened to hundreds of stories through conversations, podcasts, support groups, retreats, and shared spaces where people speak honestly about loss. Those stories have taught me that life does not end when grief enters it. It changes. It widens. It asks us to learn how to live differently.

January feels like standing at a threshold.

Behind us is what has been. Ahead of us is what we cannot yet see. And beneath our feet is the ground we are still learning to trust.

This January, there are signs of quiet unfolding.

The advance readers have completed their journey with The Five Widows Club. The book cover has been revealed. A new website has opened not as a finish line, but as a gathering place. A place to stay connected. A place for stories to meet readers when the time feels right.

In March, this story will step into the world more fully with the official book launch.

The first in-person book signing will take place during Hope Grows Here in May a gathering created for community, remembrance, and connection. I find myself genuinely excited about stepping into 2026, meeting new readers face-to-face, signing books, and celebrating alongside the widowhood community.

And if it helps to gather to be in the same room with others who understand loss and love you are warmly welcome to join us.

I share this not as a checklist of milestones, but as an invitation.

Because stories are not meant to be rushed. And grief is not meant to be carried alone.

Alongside this unfolding, my personal life is also shifting. I am preparing for retirement filling out paperwork, submitting documentation, closing one chapter while standing at the edge of another. It is a strange mix of certainty and uncertainty, relief and responsibility. Another reminder that endings and beginnings often overlap.

That, too, is January.

If you are still here still breathing, still waking up, still trying your life has meaning. Even on days when you feel invisible. Even on days when you are unsure how to move forward. Your presence matters more than you know.

A new year does not require you to be ready. It does not require clarity. It does not require strength.

It only asks that you arrive.

Same love. Same heart. Still here.

If this reflection meets you where you are, you are welcome to pull up a chair and stay connected as this story continues to unfold.
